Since 1998, Taberna de Haro has been serving Boston’s most authentic Spanish food. People come to this little corner on Beacon Street to indulge in shared tapas (small plates), memorable entrees, regional specialties, and over 240 Spanish wines well-suited to the varied menu. They come for a quick nibble and a glass of sherry before the movies. Some settle in for a 2 hour, 2 bottle anniversary celebration. Others show up for the comfort of steak and French fries served with warmth and perfect Rioja. Chef-owner Deborah Hansen spent 8 years thrilled to be living in Spain, and brings that excitement and experience to her native Boston. We are Boston's most authentic restaurant! Menu
The menu at Taberna de Haro is similar to those seen in tabernas all over Madrid. It is an ample collection (over 50 dishes) of favorites from all over Spain, representing a tiny but authentic piece of her vast cuisine. Dishes range from the simple and comforting such as tortilla espanola (tall wedge of potato and onion omelette) and pollo al ajillo (chicken fried with garlic and a splash of brandy) to the racier ancas de rana (sautéed frog legs) and arroz negro (black rice with squid). A few Madrid staples such as Madrid-style roasted sea bass and the creamy croquetas de jamon can share the table with the pulpo a la gallega (Galicia octopus with EVOO and sweet paprika) and the pincho moruno (Moorish-spiced lamb skewers) --in Brookline just as they do in Madrid! The goal is authenticity, hospitality, and fun. Imported ingredients keep everything truly authentic. The warm and friendly service envelops you as quickly as the enticing smells will. And the convivial, often-boisterous ambience is as mood enhancing as the flavorful, uniquely Spanish food.
