Raffaele Esposito, was invited to the Roal Palace of Capodimonte to prepare pizzas for the Queen Margherita di Savoia. The Queen, tasted all the pizzas he made, showing a particluar liking for a pizza with mozzarella and tomatoes. So Raffaele Esposito paid his homage to the queen by giving this pizza her name; and Pizza Margherita, was born in June 1880. "A mozzarella and tomato pizza isn't called Margherita after a flower, but after an honorable Italian Queen." Here at Savoia we want to bring a true piece of italy to Smith Street.
