Desi grew up in the restaurant business along side his parents and was later groomed by Ruth Fertel of Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, Emeril Lagasse and Ella Brennan of Commander's Palace. But it was the love of the steakhouse Ruth's Chris that prompted him to buy Mr. John's and turn it into the number one steakhouse in New Orleans. Due to the success of Mr. John's, Desi Vega's Steakhouse was opened in 2013, one mile away on St Charles Avenue. The UDSA Prime steaks are hand-cut and considered by locals as the best steaks in the city! New Orleans seafood appetizers like the Who Dat Shrimp, crabmeat stuffed and wrapped in bacon, are as popular as the sizzling steaks! There are classic sides to choose from like creamed spinach that are on the menu as well as Andouille-Crawfish Mac & Cheese. Window tables are at a premium and diners go early to reserve windows seats with a panoramic view of the St Charles Avenue Streetcar line and majestic oaks of Lafayette Square.
